1 Cor. 6:9-11 ” Do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites (temple prostitutes)10— Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers( abusers of others), nor extortioners, will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified. but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.” nkv
interesting to note this translation taking great liberty with the greek word because Paul never mentioned the word homosexual it was not a term used until the 19th century this is speaking primarily of temple prostitues and idol worship
The Apostle Paul, in writing to the church at Corinth, mentions 9 areas of the works of the flesh. This is a partial description of Adam the old man of sin that is very corrupt, unrighteous, beastly, and can never inherit the kingdom of God. ( Read: 1 Cor. 15:50 ) The Corinthian church was known for its carnality, immorality and its division, these things were happening among them as we find out from some other places in the book, but they were called babes in Christ not sinners. It is important to understand that when a believer commits wickedness it does not make them wicked, any more then a wicked person can become righteous by committing righteous deeds.
He said in (1 Cor.2:2) that he determined not to know anything among them except Jesus Christ and Him crucified; this was his approach for bringing order. It was to present the light and the reality of Christ before mentioning the darkness. He first brought them to their true identity, before he uncovered the mistaken identity.
He showed them the way out of this lifestyle was to understand who they are in Christ and what has happened to them in His death; they were not an old man of sin who could never inherit the kingdom of God. (He did not say inherit heaven when they die) but he said inherit the kingdom of God which is a present reality in the Holy Spirit. When we see who we are in Christ and what has really happened to us in His death, burial, and resurrection; we will begin to live as those who are free and no longer under the bondage of any thing.
This is what has happened to us in The name of Jesus and by His Holy Spirit.
We were washed————-To have remitted, washed away we have had the dirt of an old man removed by the pure water of the Spirit.
We were sanctified———-set apart for sacred purpose, consecrated, made to be holy, also it means to be brought to rest.
We were justified———–Made worthy, declared to be righteous, vindicated, found not guilty through His grace not by our works.
