The Ashes Of A Red Heifer

Heb. 9:13-14  –For if the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling those who have been defiled sanctify for the cleansing of the flesh,
how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

There are three things to point out in this passage of scripture, The blood of Jesus, The ashes of a red heifer,  and The cleansing of the conscience from religious dead works.

The ashes of the red heifer under the old testament were used in behalf of anyone who had came in contact with death, “the very presense of death caused worship to cease”.

The scripture reference of the red heifer is found in Numbers 19

“Spiritual revelation found in the ashes of the red heifer”

1—-   Tell the Israelites to bring you a red heifer without defect or blemish and that has never been under a yoke.   The pure red speaks of the blood of Jesus Christ.

2—-The red heifer never had a yoke placed upon her, this speaks of Jesus having no sin and being the perfect sacrifice without blemish  in order to redeem man’s soul from death .

3—-This was the only female offering in scripture the spirit is in the masculine gender while the soul is in the feminine gender, thus the red heifer typifies the cleansing of the soul ( mind,  will, and emotions, what we think want and feel)

4—- Verse 9 “A man who is clean shall gather up the ashes of the heifer and put them in a ceremonially clean place outside the camp. They shall be kept by the Israelite community for use in the water of cleansing; it is for purification from sin.
This offering was kept for future use all of the others were for the present need of mankind, the blood was sprinkled toward the tabernacle seven times…. this speaks of the blood giving us perfect fellowship..  the purpose of the future offering was to show while our spirit is cleansed instantly our soul is in a progressive work… to us this speaks of the continual power of the blood of Jesus Christ to cleanse our conscience from dead works and negative influence.

5—-When the heifer was burned it was to be burned totally, speaking to us of the total sacrifice of Jesus and his total provision for our thinking, emotions and will.

6—-  Verse 6– The priest is to take some cedar wood, hyssop and scarlet wool and throw them onto the burning heifer.  cedarwood, hyssop, and scarlet, were to be placed in the fire with the heifer, this speaks to us of Gods presence ( cedar wood)  humility (hyssop) sufferings of redemption (scarlet) , again all of this is for the soul and removes from us the influence of religious dead works.

7—- 17 “For the unclean person, put some ashes from the burned purification offering into a jar and pour fresh water over them.
The ashes were to be kept in an earthen vessel and applied with running water.
This speaks of His provision within us “we are the earthen vessel”  in us He continually cleanses our conscience, applied by the moving of the Holy Spirit “running water”.
